reader question: what to wear with the tiered skirt

i had a reader write yesterday asking if i could suggest some tops/jackets/cardis to go with the banana republic tiered ruffle skirt in wednesday's post. here are just some of the options i came up with after a few clicks around the world wide web (admittedly, i found a lot of keepers at zara). any of these strike your fancy? i can keep looking...it really depends on how work-appropriate you'd like to be...and really, any top could be paired with any jacket.

to be honest, my go-to top would probably be a white wifebeater and I'd take a summer scarf along in case there's a chill. easy and simple.

prison stripes

you all most likely know about my obsession with black and white, especially in the bathroom or when reminiscent of prison stripes. well, thanks to fellow blogger the possessionista (she has the best as-seen-on-tv fashion finds, particularly when it comes to emily from the bachelor) i was able to get my hands on a new top that feeds my obsession. truth be told, i saw this $58 pins and needles top on a girl in a wine bar over the winter and didn't have the b@lls to ask her where she got it, so thanks, possessionista, for helping me find it. it's en route from the urban outfitters warehouse as we speak!

right? i think i'm extra excited this friday because...i'll be on vacation next week! nick and i are leaving emilio with a dogsitter and we're heading to charleston to visit my parents at their new condo. don't worry, i have a few posts up my sleeve for while i'm away so you won't miss me while i'm gone.

one thing i wish i had in my wardrobe for the trip? these lucca couture chiffon scallop shorts from urban outfitters for $48. i'm loving the trend of "fancy shorts" that could pass for a skirt and the scalloped edges of these are so precious. plus they'd look really cute with my new oxfords. might have to stop at urban for a pair before i pack this weekend...

oxfords: out or in?

i decided a while back that i wouldn't buy in to the oxford craze because i'm obsessed with open toed shoes. having lived in the northeast for my entire life until now, open toed shoes weather was way too short - but now that it's open toed shoes weather almost year-round, i'm changing my tune. do i do it? do i pull the trigger? are they already out of style? are my piggies going to be too hot? either way, these price points are enough to make me want to do it...

scarves running in circles

back in the middle of the summer i purchased my first circle scarf (also known as a snood, eternity scarf and cowl scarf) on the advice of my friend jenni. now, i can't get enough. you can wear them in so many ways - as a hood, as a cowl, as a tight scarf, or over your shoulders. there are many to choose from and here are my budget-friendly faves.
