scarves running in circles

back in the middle of the summer i purchased my first circle scarf (also known as a snood, eternity scarf and cowl scarf) on the advice of my friend jenni. now, i can't get enough. you can wear them in so many ways - as a hood, as a cowl, as a tight scarf, or over your shoulders. there are many to choose from and here are my budget-friendly faves.

happy thanksgiving and happy slipper booties

happy thanksgiving everyone! nick and i will be spending the day running a 5-mile turkey trot (a pre-feast calorie burn), celebrating the holiday with our friend zach and his family here in austin, and missing our family back home in baltimore and new york.

i hope you all enjoy a day filled with turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, apple pie, yadda yadda. in addition to nice, warm stretchy pants, all i want to wear this thanksgiving is a pair of these sweater-knit slipper booties from old navy...for a mere $19.50. now THAT's delicious.

i like the grey ones best...the others miiiiight be a liiiiiiiittle bit...i dunno...lollipop guild...

p.s. good luck with black friday tomorrow...nick's threatening to compete in our very first 4am doorbusters at the local wal-mart. do we really need a blu ray THAT BAD?!

reader question: kindergarten kool

can you please help me put together some inexpensive work outfits? i'd really like a pair of skinny black pants that aren't too tight on the calf area and tops/sweaters that would work with them. oh, and i don't want to spend a million dollars or look too "teachery". thanks anniekins!

my sister, the best kindergarten teacher in the whole world, recently asked me for shopping help for the winter season. keeping in mind that she spends half of her day crawling around on the floor with her kids, i put together these outfits for her. i tried not to make them too "teachery" (which i assume means no holiday sweaters) and created each outfit around the same skinny pants from old navy. hope she likes!

20% off any one item at vicki's

there are SO many promotions going on right now. you should see my inbox - it's filled with "act now" and "while supplies last" subject lines. lucky for you i'm telling you about those that are more exciting than others.

victoria's secret is offering 20% off one item through tomorrow. enter "item20" at checkout. what would i get? hmmm not sure, but these are a few things that caught my eye. it's hard to shop for winter stuff when it's 80 degrees every day! p.s. nick had other ideas but i won't put [all of] them in here.

below: kelsi dagger suede thigh-high boots, $225

below: chinese laundry over-the-knee button boot, $119

danielle stevens 40% off and gorjana $20 off

first up...danielle stevens 40% off coupon code:

my friend jess was just asking me where she can find a coupon code for the monogrammed danielle stevens necklace i wrote about this past summer. and what do you know - there was an amazing coupon code in my inbox yesterday! i absolutely love holiday coupons. use coupon code "holidaydsj" at checkout to earn up to 40% off.

i tested the code and this engraved pendant is now $46.80 down from $78 and this rectangular one is $39.60 down from $66:

and next up...gorjana's $20 off coupon good today only (friday 11/20):

y'all (yes, y'all) are probably sick of me talking about gorjana jewelry. well, you'll like it this time because gorjana just sent out a one-day-only $20 off coupon code - "spoilme" - good until 11:59pm tonight.

as you probably already know, i'd use it on the dove necklace to bring the $70 price tag down to $50:

there are tons of options by both designers and many of them would make fantastic holday gifts. enjoy!

it's always watermelon season

even though watermelon season is typically in the summer months, i think i can make it work all year round. yes, i'm talking about clothing - not food.

being that i've always been one to invest in opaque black tights (and more funky, patterned ones more recently), i think this watermelon miniskirt by bb dakota is totally doable in the colder winter months. i love the tulip layers, zipper up the back for a little edge, and of course the reddish/pink color.

for only $44 from lulus, i think it's the perfect way to add a little pop to my winter gear.

i heart fridge clippies

i've already mentioned how psychotic i am about keeping our bookshelf neat and organized. well, that same psychotic tendency also applies to the refrigerator. all of the magnets are always lined up, the photos perfectly aligned, coupons and papers neatly tucked away on the side out of view...which is why i love these happeez(R) clippers.

the little clippers have some crazy material on the back that grips slick surfaces (including stainless steel) with no residue. i mean, nothing beats the souvenir daytona beach magnet i got with nick's name on it a few years ago, but these are pretty cute too.

get one for $6 or three for $15.

you: is that desk from west elm? me: nope!

having lived in roughly 700 square feet for the past few years in new york, there was absolutely no room for anything was that was not absolutely essential. and so our coffee table not only doubled as our dining room table but it also doubled as our desk. now that we have a second bedroom (yaaaaay!), i plan to have it double as a guest room and an office - with a real, grown-up desk in there. i've had my eye on this parsons desk from west elm forever, but the $299 price tag (on sale from $329) is too high for me.

so how excited was i when i found this student desk while perusing overstock.com? with a price tag of $159.99, i immediately added it to my shopping bag. not only is it an exact replica of the one from west elm, it's half the price and it's gotten rave reviews from buyers.

plus, overstock offers $1 shipping all the time AND when you sign up for emails they send you a 10% off coupon. SOLD!

moving day!

today is moving day! we're moving out of corporate housing and into our "real" apartment and i'm super excited. wish us luck and i'll be back online tomorrow assuming all goes well. just a heads up that you'll probably start to see more home-oriented posts since i'll be trying to decorate on a serious budget while i job hunt!

built ny on one kings lane today

my friend christy first introduced me to these bags by built ny. according to their website, built ny: designs iconic neoprene totes that make everyday life more enjoyable. our roots in the tradition of american industrial design guide us in the belief that form is as important as function, and color is the glue that binds them together. drawing inspiration from the city that never sleeps, we apply color and pattern to lunch totes, laptop sleeves, bottle totes, and more. whether you’re eating, working, or playing—we’ve got you covered.

i have a soft spot for their wine totes and lucky for us, one kings lane is having a built ny sale starting today at 11am est. they're usually about $15 for a two bottle tote - wonder what inventory one kings lane will have and how the prices will be!

one for you, one for me: ann taylor loft sweaters

i feel like i've been writing about ann taylor and LOFT a lot lately. well, here's another reason why. LOFT is running a special right now - buy one full-price sweater and get a second for 50% off. i've been drooling over this $108 toggle button sweater for about a month now (it's the perfect look for less of one of j.crew's $250 sweaters that sold out in about 30 seconds). granted i'll have about three days worth of cold weather to wear it here in austin but i will get use of it during one of my visits up north, right?

so who wants in? one for you, one for me?

glow baby glow

i admit it. i am a lauren conrad fan. i also admit that i shop for mark products by avon. GOD i feel so GUILTY! anyway, one of my faves is this peach glow baby glow m.powerment lip gloss. the mark website describes it as: glistening shine, sheer color and minty freshness all in one. lips stay smooth and moisturized, with a slick and sexy finish.

for only $5.50, i'll take it. plus, all proceeds go to the mark m.powerment fund, a philanthropic initiative committed to breaking the cycle of dating abuse and partner violence.

p.s. sign up for emails and earn free shipping on order of $10 or more (or use the one they sent me...SHOP2009).

p.p.s. myluckyrewards gives 7% cash back for avon brands.
