couponing at DSW

being out of new york city means i've been doing a lot of shopping at chain retailers. i think one of the best things about them is their coupons, and it was proven the other day at DSW. all of my flats from last winter are totally shot so i went in to find a replacement pair. i came across these steve madden heaven round toe flats for $39.95 - a steal since they will quickly become a staple in my rotation.

during checkout the girl asked if i'd like to sign up for the DSW rewards program, earning me a $10 coupon after this purchase. uhhhhh YES please! here's what else you get for signing up:

  • free membership
  • reward certificates for every 1,500 points earned
  • two double-points shopping days each year
  • advance notice of sales, clearance and upcoming opportunities for bonus points
  • points history to track your purchase
  • special offers, promotions and a birthday certificate
  • My DSW Rewards®: the account information you need plus the fashion news you love all in one newsletter-delivered straight to your inbox
  • a special online offer that is not available to non-members
  • the opportunity to upgrade your status and earn an even higher level of benefits with DSW Premier Rewards® (i don't know what that means but something tells me it's a credit card)
you can sign up here!

mirrored side tables: the look for even less

remember when i first wrote about mirrored side tables from pier 1? well, when walking through target the other day i happened to catch my reflection in...yep...mirrored side tables...for $89 each. i wish i had taken a photo because the one below from the target website doesn't do them justice. the target version doesn't have the level of detail the pier 1 version does, but i'd say they're a great look for less if you want the look and don't want to shell out the cash.

below: mirrored side table from target, $89

below: hayworth nightstand from pier 1, $199.95

e-gift cards from one kings lane

i first wrote about my love for one kings lane here, and i am so excited that they've just launched e-gift cards! to refresh your memory, one kings lane is my favorite (and the first) online sample sale website for home-oriented/home decor items. just in time for the holidays, e-gift cards are the perfect gift for the stylish loved ones in your life.

you choose the amount ($25 - $1,000), enter the recipient's email address and a personalized message, click send, and the recipient can start shopping the very next business day. or you can print the e-gift card and present it in person...i think it'd be way more fun that way for christmas morning (hint hint if you're reading this, nick).

not yet a member? just click here and enter my email (anniedoyle14@gmail.com) when they ask how you heard about one kings lane. by the way, there are some great sales scheduled for this week...

we'll miss you, buzzy

buzzy
("buzz", "ol' buzz")
october 28, 1994 - november 6, 2009

today we say goodbye to a very special member of our family. we lost buzzy to cancer this morning and even though nick and i are 1,500 miles away from my in-law's house where buzzy lived, there's definitely an empty spot where buzzy used to be.

nick's mom and dad brought buzzy home for christmas in 1994 and he was always the happiest, funniest dog. he was completely oblivious to the fact that he was small and he had the biggest personality of any dog i've ever come across. i only knew buzzy for the last five of his 16 years so my time with him was limited - but i'll miss our walks on the farm, the way he'd scratch his head by jamming his head against the carpet, and the way he perked up and put up a damn good fight when play-wrestling with nick (who is 175 pounds bigger than buzz was). i think what i'll miss the most about buzzy is the way he would curl up on my belly and keep me warm no matter where i was sitting or what i was doing - and demand that i pet him or be punished with incessant licking.

here's buzzy curled up for a nap with our nephew

send your prayers up to buzzy in pup heaven and also to his family saundra, ronnie, mary, adam, jen and aidan who will miss him even more than nick and i will.

we love you, buzz!

ruffles ruffles ruffles

with all of the menswear trends reigning supreme this season, i've been on the lookout for a few ultra feminine pieces to soften up my outfits. i absolutely die for this dupioni silk ruffle purse called "the storybook" by etsy seller design du jour. although originally meant for a bride on her wedding day, i think this bag could work just fine when not worn alongside layers of lace and tulle. you'll also see the designer is happy to create a custom bag in the color of your choice. black or navy would be awesome.

the bag is 20% off for a limited time, bringing the price to $112. check out the seller's other items - i have more than just this one on my wishlist.

rachel rachel roy for macy's

my friend christine recently hit up macy's in herald square (which i have lovingly dubbed "the vortex of hell" due to the crowds...but i miss it *sigh*) when looking for a dress for a friend's wedding. she came back raving about the rachel rachel roy collection. specifically for macy's, rachel roy has created some really great, stylish and unique pieces at relatively affordable price points. i hear there is a better selection in-store and i'm dying to check it out, but the sequined crossbody bag below is my favorite item from online.

below: the material girl crossbody bag, $79

and i also appreciate these lovely items, all edgy and feminine at the same time:

below: double breasted sweater coat, $109

below: art deco party dress with chain straps, on sale for $77.40

below: bellah pumps, $99

hatch show print, a nashville institution

nick and i had a really great drive from new york to austin this past weekend. we were lucky enough to stop in both nashville and memphis and spend time in both cities. one of the shopping treasures i came across was in nashville - specifically, a little company called hatch show print who i had never heard of...but had seen their work many times before without knowing it.

We're one of the oldest working letterpress print shops in America, and over the years our posters have featured a host of country music performers ranging from Hall of Famers Hank Williams, Bill Monroe and Johnny Cash to present-day stars Garth Brooks, Wynonna Judd and Shania Twain.

they had some really cool posters for sale, along with some greeting cards and postcards. don't be surprised if you get a card from me with the unmistakable look of a hatch print...
